32 | WATERLINE December 2025 NEWCASTLE’S SUPERYACHT FACILITY SET TO TRANSFORM MARITIME TOURISM INDUSTRY NEWS Newcastle is set to become Australia’s newest destination for Superyacht activity with the proposed construction of a $5 million AUD purpose-built service facility at the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club (NCYC). Backed by the NSW Government which committed to partially funding the initiative as part of an infrastructure grant. The proposed development will include berths designed for superyachts over 30 metres, expansion and enhancement of existing marina operations and emergency services base and training facility included for community use. NCYC Commodore, Barry Kelly highlighted Newcastle's strategic advantage, "Sydney is at capacity for superyacht stays. As a designated customs port of entry, Newcastle is perfectly placed to welcome vessels looking for an alternative base, while growing skilled maritime jobs across the region." The landmark project will not only enhance Newcastle’s maritime infrastructure but will attract some of the largest superyachts in the world, create skilled marine jobs and grow the local economy. Newcastle has always been a great maritime destination, and this will certainly enhance its reputation on the global stage.” Following significant investment by d'Albora, Horizon Shores Marina, Gold Coast has rebranded to Pacific Point Marina & Boatyard and unveiled major upgrades. Stage one of the redevelopment includes; 54 new marina berths (16m and 20m) for monohulls and catamarans, refurbished amenities block, resurfaced car parks, and extensive landscaping to elevate the waterfront precinct. “This rebrand signals a new era for the site,” said Julien Pouteau, Managing Director d’Albora. “With new infrastructure in place and strong community engagement, we’re proud to reposition Pacific Point Marina & Boatyard as a functional, forward-thinking destination for boaters, tenants, and visitors alike."
