December 2025 WATERLINE | 39 The Advanced Marina Management (AMM) Course was held in Auckland, New Zealand, from 30 August to 4 September 2025, bringing together marina professionals from across the region for a week of high-level learning, collaboration, and industry engagement. Hosted in central Auckland, participants spent four intensive days attending presentations delivered by some of the industry’s most experienced professionals. The course culminated in a capstone project and group presentation focused on the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club site, where participants were challenged to develop a masterplan for the Club and Marina. The results were nothing short of outstanding. Each group demonstrated impressive depth of analysis, creativity, and practical thinking. Completing a complex marina redevelopment project in a new location, with teammates they had only met four days earlier, in 48 hours, is no easy feat. Congratulations to all participants for producing such innovative and well-considered masterplans. The success of the AMM Course is built on the incredible support of our Certified Members and industry leaders, who generously share their expertise and time to present, mentor, and guide participants. A special thank you goes to Scott Finsten CMM, Harbour Master Ocean Marina, who travelled from Thailand to facilitate the 5-day program. Scott supported participants throughout the week, offering guidance and sharing valuable insights from his extensive industry experience, as well as presenting. We also thank Bruce Birtwistle CMP, General Manager Bellingham Marine for his engaging session on Marina Design, Construction, and Redevelopment, followed by the alwaysLEARNING, LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION AT THE ADVANCED MARINA MANAGEMENT COURSE – AUCKLAND 2025 By Lily Peel, MIA Industry Training & Education Coordinator MARINA TRAINING INSTITUTE popular Bellingham Sponsor Dinner. This event has become a highlight of the AMM course, an evening of networking, discussion, and connection between participants, presenters, and industry partners. Further thanks to Mike Keown CMM and David Marginet CMP from Auckland Central Council Marinas, both recent graduates of the 2024 AMM Course who have since achieved Certified Member accreditation. It’s inspiring to see new Certified Members already giving back to the industry by contributing their knowledge and experience. Additional appreciation goes to Jason Snashall CMM, Managing Director Orakei Marina, Phil Wardale CMM, Managing Director Wardale Ltd, David Hollingsworth, General Manager Half Moon Bay Marina, Lyndon Turner, CEO Nautilus Marine Insurance, and Geoff Ellis, Principal Profit Advantage Group, for their presentations and support throughout the week. After the course concluded, some participants had the opportunity to join David Marginet CMP and Mike Keown CMM for a guided tour of Westhaven Marina, Auckland Central Marina, and Silo Marina. It was great to see these world-class facilities and operations in the heart of Auckland. Once again, thank you to everyone who made the 2025 AMM Course such a success.
