July 2025 WATERLINE | 35 MARINA TRAINING INSTITUTE The Marina Training Institute (MTI) recently delivered three highly successful training events across Australia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, reflecting the continued growth in demand for professional development in marina management and operations. The Straddle Carrier Maintenance and Operation Course (SCOM) was hosted at Savages Wharf, Victoria on 3-4 May. Nine participants were provided essential hands-on training in a key area of marina operations. A special thank you to Savages Wharf for hosting, and to Angela Melville from White Bay 6 Marine Park for delivering a practical and informative course. The first of two Intermediate Marina Management (IMM) Courses was held in Dubai 22-25 April and was facilitated by The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) General Manager, Jon White CMP. 16 professionals gathered and brought a wide range of marina backgrounds and experience, contributing to engaging and constructive discussions. Presenters included Andy Saville CMM, Ahmed Abdelhalim CMM, Farrokh Golchin, Binod Shankar, and Charleene Mitchel, who each added valuable insights. The course also included site visits to Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club and P&O Marinas Mina Rashid Marina, with participants presenting profitability improvement ideas to an expert panel. The second IMM Course returned to Southeast Asia for the first time since 2017 and was held at Phuket Boat Lagoon, 18-22 May. With attendees from across Asia, Australia, and even Seychelles, the course highlighted the global reach and value of the MIA's training offerings. The 11 participants explored operations at Phuket Boat Lagoon, Royal Phuket Marina, and Phuket Yacht Haven, gaining a comprehensive view of marina management within the region. Thank you to Phuket Boat Lagoon for hosting the course and to Wicky Sundrum CMP, James Roy CMM, and Scott Finsten CMM for volunteering their time to present across the week. The next IMM course is scheduled for 27-31 July in Sydney. It is close to full, so call Lily soon if you are interested in attending. The MIA is committed to delivering world-class education and supporting the development of marina professionals across the globe. The demand and attendance at these courses reflects the industry’s desire for high quality professional development and education.
