July 2025 WATERLINE | 37 The annual Marina Industries Association (MIA) Certified Members (CM) Meeting was held on May 7 at the picturesque Jones Bay Superyacht Marina, Pyrmont, Sydney. The event brought together 33 Certified Members from across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and the UAE, providing a valuable opportunity to address key industry issues and facilitate the exchange of regional insights, operational experiences and best practice. Following regional updates from around the globe, members engaged in productive discussions on a range of topics, including safety, environmental practices, staffing challenges, and shared learnings from recent incidents at marinas. These conversations provided valuable takeaways and helped to identify potential improvement opportunities for all in attendance. MIA Industry Training & Development Coordinator, Lily Peel, provided an update on recent developments in MIA education, highlighting the continued success and strong demand for both the Intermediate Marina Management and Advanced Marina Management courses and recognised the contributions of those who provide input and advice on the course updates and who give significant time in presenting at the courses. The meeting was held at Doltone House, adjacent to the newly developed Jones Bay Superyacht Marina. The venue and catering was generously sponsored by those suppliers involved in the redevelopment project; Bellingham Marine, M-Tech, Copley Marine Group, Red Dog Group, and Scope Marine. After lunch an indepth presentation and technical tour of the site, was provided by Nairn Johnson CMM of Scope Marine which manages the site. This immersive session highlighted the unique challenges of redeveloping a high-profile waterfront site, including heritage considerations, infrastructure upgrades, and the integration of modern superyacht facilities within a historically significant precinct. Special thanks to our sponsors for supporting the event and providing a fantastic venue, catering and in-depth technical tour. Two new Certified Members, David Marginet (CMP) and Mike Keown (CMM), both from Westhaven Marina, Auckland, were welcomed into the Certified Member community. Although unable to attend the meeting, David and Mike will be officially presented with their member badges at the NZMOA Conference to be held in Queenstown 10-12 September.
