42 | WATERLINE July 2025 The Boathouse Marina located in Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary in May hosting over 300 guests including customers, staff, and stakeholders. The Honourable Mark McGowan, Western Australia’s ex-Premier, a new boatie and a valued customer of the Boathouse Marina was among the guests. The important milestone highlighted the marina's significance in Perth's recreational boating community. The occasion importantly recognised the dedicated marina staff, and those from the larger Pelagic Group which includes Rottnest Barge Service, JMC Marine Group, and Pier 21 Marina, many of whom have been with the company since its inception. It also provided the opportunity to thank the marina’s customers, 21 of whom have been at the marina since its opening. At the recent Nautilus Marine Insurance Marina of the Year Awards, The Boathouse Marina was recognised for its outstanding facility being awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the Drystack Storage Facility of the Year category. CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF THE BOATHOUSE MARINA INDUSTRY NEWS Westhaven Marina, Auckland, New Zealand has completed a full replacement of the L pier as part of its ongoing infrastructure improvement programme. Total Marine Services led the redevelopment with the implementation of cost-effective methods that aligned with Westhaven’s environmental goals - the majority of materials removed were repurposed across New Zealand and the wider Pacific Region, including; concrete pontoons shipped to the northern Cook Islands for a new cruising boat facility, timber piles transformed into fencing and farm structures in Kaipara, 90% of timber walers were reused for planter boxes and farm buildings in South Auckland, and all old steel parts were sent to metal recyclers. Foam-filled pile floaters were the only non-recyclable elements, prompting Westhaven to transition to fully recyclable, with foam-free alternatives in future upgrades. Located 2km from Auckland CBD, Westhaven Marina is the largest marina facility in the Southern Hemisphere and provides berths for over 1,800 vessels, includes 160m recreational and commercial fuel wharf, public boat ramp and charter services. The wider marine precinct provides boatyards, slipways and dry stack berths, four yacht clubs, marine businesses and hospitality venues. The latest refurbishment forms part of a series of maintenance and infrastructure initiatives that have seen the marina successfully reaccredit from 4 Gold Anchor to 5 Gold Anchor status and awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in International Marina of the Year category at the Nautilus Marine Insurance Marina of the Year Awards in May.
