Where Do We Go From Here

48 Trust There is no anxiety here. It is mission premised on the massive priorness of God’s love and grace towards us. We too often anxiously wonder where the unchurched, the dechurched, the mischurched are to be found. Yet Philip did not know where the Eunuch was, who the Eunuch was, or anything about the Eunuch’s openness to meeting Jesus. We are not to be anxious about the where or who or how or why – we need to be attentive to the Spirit’s guidance and ready to join another’s journey, to be a midwife for newborn faith in Jesus. Humility The Ethiopian was a eunuch, but also a government heavy-weight. He was the Treasurer! He knew all about power and influence and wealth. So was God like his boss, the Queen of Ethiopia, or like him, the castrated one? To his and our great surprise, it is the latter. God is the Lamb who was slain, who remained silent, who suffered injustice, refusing to defend himself. As Balthasar puts it so beautifully: God revealed who God is, in becoming everything that is not God, by pouring himself out into the world he created, by emptying himself into suffering human existence, corrupted by death and alienated from God . 2 2.
