17 M A J O R S T O R I E S O F 2 0 2 0 New facilities for students at Central Coast Grammar School New Junior School under construction CENTRAL COAST GRAMMAR School at Erina Heights, the region’s premier school and home to over 1,300 girls and boys from Kindergarten to Year 12, has invested over $20M in a new Junior School campus open- ing in January 2021. The School is currently undertaking a large capital works programme which includes a new Junior School and the conversion of the current K-2 buildings for senior use. Apart from the new Junior School which is due to open for the begin- ning of the 2021 school year, the School is undertaking another $5M worth of rede- velopment which includes the new senior precinct and minor refurbishments to a range of other buildings. “The extra room available through work being undertaken in the senior precinct and other parts of the senior school would reduce overcrowding of students and staff and provide greatly enhanced facilities,” said Headmaster, Bill Low. The reconfiguration and refurbishment of existing K to 2 buildings will feature: • Senior College (Y10-12) administration centre, • Year 12 study centre with digital collabo- ration zones, • Year 12 common room with large kitch- enette, • careers and international programmes offices, • four dynamic and flexible senior learning spaces, • new bathroom facilities, • Social Sciences department office, • Cutting edge technological provision through the whole development • Environmentally sensitive design princi- ples will be employed within the building and landscaping The new Senior College centre responds to the school’s ongoing commitment to next generation education and high quality resources and will have the feel of a mod- ern university campus. Associated works include a sports grand- stand with amenities and landscaped rec- reation areas. The new buildings complement exten- sive investment in teacher professional development and join an award winning performing arts centre and celebrated sports facilities to deliver the next genera- tion teaching and learning at the heart of the school’s strategic plan. The past ten years has seen considerable investment in facilities at the School. In 2010 a new Library and Lecture Theatre was opened and in 2012 the School’s Science Block was upgraded to provide state-of-the- art facilities including seven laboratories. In 2014 a new Performing Arts Centre fea- turing a 750-seat auditorium was completed. This was followed in 2018 with extensive refurbishment of facilities for the Senior School as part of the school’s broader mas- ter plan and was been designed to reflect the very latest international thinking in learning environments.
