Fluids should now only be taken between meals, leaving 30 minutes before and after meals to prevent overfilling the stomach. Overfilling the stomach is likely to increase your risk of vomiting, discomfort or early hunger. You will need to make an extra effort to focus on having enough fluids between meals. To replace normal fluid losses you must consume at least 1.5L each day. This ensures that you are well hydrated, and helps you to have regular bowel movements. Inadequate fluid intake can cause headaches, fatigue, cramps, constipation, and confusing thirst and hunger. • Make sure you have plenty of low-calorie drinks like water, herbal tea or diet cordial. • Avoid high-calorie drinks like fruit juices, soft drinks, cordials and commercial smoothies. • Carry a bottle of water with you to remind you to drink regularly - Sip sip sip in between meals • Drink water even when you are not thirsty, if you are thirsty, this means you are already dehydrated.
