Raine and Horne

Ric Serrao: A trailblazing force in Australian real estate Over the course of an impressive three-decade career, Ric Serrao has risen to prominence in the Australian real estate industry, solidifying his position as a respected member of the Raine & Horne network during Angus Raine’s leadership of the 140-year-old company. As the Principal Licensee and Sales Agent at Raine & Horne’s prestigious Double Bay/Bondi Beach office since 2009, Ric’s remarkable accomplishments and widespread recognition have firmly established him as a leading authority in Australian real estate. Notably, he has consistently been acknowledged as Raine & Horne’s top Salesperson and Principal nationwide. Moreover, Ric has solidified his position among Australia’s elite agents, regularly securing a place in the esteemed Real Estate Business Top 10 list, an achievement highlighted by his remarkable third place ranking in 2023. His stellar performance encompassed an impressive 202 sales, totalling a staggering $675 million. Industry recognition: Ric’s expertise extends beyond borders Such is Ric’s reputation and respect in the industry that his advice can even be found in blogs authored by agents from other firms. Meanwhile, Raine & Horne Double Bay/Bondi Beach has maintained an unbroken winning streak as Raine & Horne’s number one sales office since 2001, a remarkable accomplishment that persists as of May 2023. Although Ric’s accomplishments are truly extraordinary, they are rooted in his personal journey. Originally from Portugal, Ric and his family emigrated to Australia in the early 1970s, initially settling in Sydney’s Inner West before finding a permanent home in North Bondi with his life and business partner, Lucy Apoyan, who is equally dynamic. Ric expressed his gratitude for the support he receives both personally and professionally. “I consider myself fortunate to have my wife, Lucy Apoyan, by my side, supporting me in the business,” he acknowledged. Additionally, Ric highlighted the exceptional team at Raine & Horne Double Bay/Bondi Beach that stands behind him, stating: “I am privileged to have a great team supporting me at Raine & Horne Double Bay/Bondi Beach.” From humble beginnings to real estate success Starting his working career as a teenager, Ric undertook various jobs, including managing roles at KFC, driving taxis, and working in the hospitality industry. He later immersed himself in the equestrian world overseas, competing in horse riding and training. Upon middle daughter Edwina is working in marketing and the youngest Heidi is studying to be a primary school teacher. It makes for exciting times for the Raine family, and Angus is also extremely grateful to his highly supportive wife, Natasha, a successful occupational therapist. Born in Papua New Guinea, and educated at Brisbane’s prestigious Sommerville House and known widely as Tash, Angus says of his astute spouse: “Tash not only runs the family’s business interests, but she is also in charge of a bustling house.” Coincidentally, Tash’s grandmother was born in Lautoka in 1921, and fittingly she was part of the launch of Raine & Horne Lautoka in 2017. But for now, Angus is continuing to navigate the future of Raine & Horne. He may not be discovering new islands as his forbearer Captain Raine did, but he is actively exploring new markets and seizing fresh technology opportunities, and Captain Thomas Raine would undoubtedly be proud. For Angus, the importance of building a personal brand outside Raine & Horne went beyond the desire to avoid any hint of favouritism 56
