What’s happening in our market? The big story is the impact of fires throughout our region, houses and sheds lost, people and stock evacuated and untold casualties amongst our native animal friends. Whilst the losses have been substantial and the stresses enormous for many, the RFS have responded to the challenge. The draw upon their resources and reserves, both as RFS members and individuals has been substantial to say the least. Alongside the brave RFS are the SES, Police, support staff and logistics experts, the pilots and heavy machine operators and many others that deserve our thanks and recognition. One of the key takeouts of this recent situation is the value of these local people. They are our friends, work colleagues, neighbours and peers. Their selfless actions in protecting our villages and communities along with the things we cherish cannot be undervalued or taken for granted. There are many tales of community spirit over the last month but often overlooked by the media and those further afield is that these stories are about us. Our neighbours, family members and friends who came to help, those that rang to offer help, the ones that moved trailers and animals, people that received animals with no notice, the people that made food and delivered drinks or drove the ute so you could spray spot burns – along with the RFS you have have made a positive and powerful statement about our community – well done everyone. There is more to do and our cousins at Braidwood and surrounding areas are still facing the struggle. The fight isn’t over and no doubt many of you will still be helping our friends and neighbours for weeks and months to come, so we salute you and say thanks to all involved. 2019 has seen us top the annual charts of local sales for the third year running so to all our clients and friends, thanks for your ongoing support.
