About the Central Coast
The Central Coast is a unique region, unique for a
number of reasons:
• It comprises only two local government areas –
Gosford and Wyong
• Gosford CBD is designated a Regional City while
Tuggerah is a Major Centre. Wyong is designated
a Town
• It is located between Sydney and Newcastle.
(Sydney CBD to Tuggerah is 90 km – Tuggerah to
Newcastle is 91 km)
• While it is regarded by some government
departments as a region in its own right it is
also regarded as part of Greater Sydney by other
government departments,
• It had an estimated resident population of
331,007 as of 30 June 2014
• Total number of residents in employment as of 30
June 2014 was 153,739
• It has a high commuter population of around
40,000 people
• Individual income levels are among the lowest
in NSW
• The major industry sectors by number of people
employed are: Health Care and Social Assistance,
Retail, Construction and Manufacturing.
The administrative centres for Gosford and Wyong
Local Government Areas, which comprise the
Central Coast region, are the CBD’s of Gosford
and Wyong.
Town Centres are located throughout the region
servicing the commercial and retail needs of their
surrounding residential and business areas with
some taking on a more significant and wider role.
They include:

Gosford CBD, Erina, West Gosford, Terrigal,
The Peninsula – Woy Woy, Umina Beach and
Ettalong Beach.
Wyong Local GovernmentArea
Wyong Town Centre, Tuggerah, The Entrance,
Toukley, Lake Haven, Tumbi Umbi, Ourimbah.
These suburban centres, or town centres, and their
commercial characteristics are detailed below to
provide a snapshot of the region.
Gosford Local GovernmentArea
GOSFORDCBD
Situated on the shores of Brisbane Water, Gosford
CBD is a major public transport hub with rail and
bus interchange and direct road links to Sydney and
all other areas within the region.
Population of the CBD area at the 2011 Census
was 3,392.
Gosford CBD has many of the attributes of a
