A sputum specimen should be collected on three

consecutive mornings immediately after rising. If

sputum– rinse mouth with water prior to collection.

Patient instruction sheets available for sputum or

urine collection.

Label swab with site of collection.

Citrate tube must be filled to the line at the top of

the label (fill line) and mixed thoroughly. Must be

tested within 4 hours of collection if not spun &

separated.
