GPT Emergency Guidelines
10 SAFE ASSEMBLY AREAS Safe Assembly Areas are predetermined destinations around the building to be used as marshalling points in the event of an evacuation All occupants should know the location of all SafeAssemblyAreas These are locations that are far enough away from the building so as not to place the assembled persons in danger They are also out of the way of emergency services so as not to impede entry and/or re ghting ability Be aware that the ECO may direct occupants to an alternative safe assembly area at any time, for any reason Do not move fromanAssemblyArea unless directed to do so by Emergency Services or Chief Warden DO NOT ENTER THE PREMISE DURING AN EVACUATION If you arrive at the building during an evacuation you will be expected to attend the SafeAssemblyArea. Persons Refusing toComplywithWarden’s Directions During a practice emergency drill, staff are mandated to participate unless they work in a business critical role. In business critical roles where staff cannot participate in the drills - such as the Operations Centre. The staff members’ names should be taken, and the reason why they cannot participate listed on the WardenAttendance Sheet. During an actual building evacuation should a person refuse to comply with the directions given by an appointedWarden: 1. Ensure the person knows you are a Warden and they have been clearly advised they are required to evacuate the building, because of an emergency situation. 2. Notify the Floor Warden, who can then advise the Emergency Services or Chief Warden. This ofcer, at his/her discretion, may take the appropriate action under law to remove the person. NB: It is advisable to have a witness to conrmany refusals. Document the names of any person who chooses not to evacuate and document the witness name (if required). DONOT start an argument – just report to the Floor Warden/Chief Warden.
