12 TELEPHONE THREATS In the event of a telephone threat:  Stay calm  Attract someone’s attention to notify amanager immediately  Themanager should notify a Floor Warden for escalation to the building Chief Warden  The Chief Warden or amanager will advise the Police  Keep the caller on the telephone as long as possible and record the caller's comments word by word. Utilise the Bomb Threat Check List (ReferAppendix)  Listen carefully for background noises, speech mannerisms, accent, etc. which might give a clue to the age, sex and location of the caller  Fill out bomb threat checklist immediately in private, away fromdistractions.  Assessment of appropriate response will bemade by the Chief Warden andmanagement BOMB THREAT PROCEDURES WRITTEN THREATS In the event of a letter/note/email or SMS:  Handle the letter/note as little as possible, if at all  Police will be interested in talking rst hand with the person receiving the threat. This person should remain available until Police arrive  Email messages should be retained for Police investigation. Do not attempt to reply to themessage  SMSmessages should be retained for Police investigation. Do not attempt to reply to themessage SUSPICIOUS PACKAGES If a SuspiciousObject is located:  The location and description of the object as detailed and accurate as possible should be reported to the appropriate Warden. This information is relayed immediately to a manager or the Chief Warden, who will call Police and Fire Brigade. When these agencies arrive, they should be met and escorted to the scene (to a safe distance)  The danger area should be identied and blocked off with a clear zone of at least 100m. Include the area above and below the object  Check to see that all doors are open to minimise primary damage from blast and secondary damage from fragmentation  Evacuate the building if advised to do so by the ECO team  Persons should not assemble in any location that is in line of sight to the possible danger area  The Chief Warden or manager will advise on the location of the Assembly Area in accordance with the type and area of threat, in conjunction with other inuencing factors such as weather/wind direction etc.  The removal and disarming of a bomb or suspicious object, must be left to police
