In the large and light-filled living room, they added a wall of custom-made built-in cabinetry for storage and books. Dotted with beautiful mature trees, the lush green garden is one of the home’s highlights, with a pretty front veranda, red brick path and restored front elevation setting a memorable first impression. The Bennetts have landscaped extensively, adding irrigation, fencing and lighting as well as a sizeable timber cubbyhouse, and have extended the recycled brick paving to create even more usable outdoor space. “It’s the perfect home for someone who loves to spend time in the garden,” says Allan. The large covered alfresco entertaining area is their favourite part of the home, where they love to sit with a coffee and watch the girls play on the lush lawns. “We’ve had Christmas out here and the kids have had the inflatable pool out on the grass,” says Sonia. The Bennetts held onto the home despite a move to Broome for work, returning to renovate and raise their family. A short walk away is renowned Palmyra Primary School, where their eldest daughter attends kindergarten. “She absolutely loves the kindy, and really enjoyed trick- or-treating through Palmyra for Halloween last year,” says Sonia. “We couldn’t believe how much people got into it. Even the adults were dressing up.” The family love visiting the Palmyra Farmers Markets, having breakfast at May Street Larder and heading to the numerous local parks with their Staffy cross. “Palmyra has a big dog community,” says Sonia.
