Who can access the NDIS?

You can access the NDIS and choose

your funding structure, provided

you meet the eligibility criteria

set out by the National Disability

Insurance Agency (NDIA). The NDIA

has developed an Access Checklist

available at

www.ndis.gov.au

to help

you find out whether you will be able

to access funding from the NDIS.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing

individualised support for people with a disability, their families and carers

Who is eligible for the NDIS?

What is funded under the NDIS?

The NDIS will help people with

a disability to live life their way,

to help achieve their goals and

participate in the community.

The NDIS provides eligible people

a flexible, whole-of-life approach

to the supports needed to pursue

their goals and aspirations to

participate in daily life.

What does the NDIS mean for people with a disability?

Under the NDIS, people with a disability will make the decisions about

their supports, including who will provide them. Funding for disability

supports is allocated to each eligible individual, not to a service provider.

People with a disability can choose whether to manage their own funds or

entrust them to one or multiple providers. The National Disability Insurance

Agency, together with Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC), will work

with people with a disability to ensure they continue to get their current

supports during the transition.

What

is the

NDIS?

There are four requirements for eligibility into the NDIS

1. Do you usually need support from a person or

equipment to do everyday things for yourself

because of an impairment or condition that is

likely to be permanent?

2. Do you have Australian residency?

3. Are you under 65 years old?

4. Do you live in an area which is transitioning

into the NDIS?

Each state and territory have different roll out

schedules which will transition people to the NDIS.

By 1 July 2018, the NDIS is operating statewide.

If you answered yes to each of these questions then

you may be eligible, please contact the NDIS on

1800 800 110

to confirm or visit the NDIS website

for more information.

The NDIS will fund ‘reasonable and necessary’

supports that are related to your disability and

help you to achieve your goals and aspirations

across a range of areas such as:

1. Daily living

2. Home

3. Relationships

4. Health and wellbeing

5. Lifelong learning

6. Work

7. Social and community participation

8. Choice and control

Some assistive technologies like continence

related equipment and products will be funded.

What is the NDIA?

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is a government agency

responsible for implementing the NDIS, providing information and referral

to people with a disability, their families and carers, as well as mainstream

providers and other community services.
