HOMI LY

Bishop Peter Ingham

PRESENTATION AND DEPOS ITING

OF THE REL IC

Over the last few weeks a piece of the wood from the original casket

of St Mary MacKillop has rested in St Mary Mother of God Church,

Leppington (the northern Mass centre of the parish). Today this relic

was carried by parishioners who undertook a pilgrimage from the

northern Mass centre to this church (the southern Mass centre of

the parish). This relic will now be processed into the new church by

some of these pilgrims and deposited in an aperture in the altar.

During this procession and depositing of the relic the following

hymn is sung:

The cross is my portion - it is my sweet rest and support.

I could not be happy without my cross -

I would not lay it down for all the world could give.

With the cross I am happy, but without it I would be lost.

The cross is my portion

My sweet rest, my great strenth

The cross is my portion

I will not lay it down

I will not lay it down

For all the world could give.
