Preparations for Albany

I suppose there are a few that understand that events

just don’t happen - they require enormous amounts of

organization and preparation, the vast majority done

by volunteers. For our major events, work for the next

year begins a week or two after the event finishes. And

so it is in Albany: the crew are busy producing a new

style of fastening to secure the chains to the concrete

barriers – we only need about 1,500 of them! These

new fastenings were designed by local stalwart Russel

Johnson, and trialled in the 2015 Albany Classic on the lower Aberdeen Street corner. All

reports indicate that they were a great success – just ask Laurie Lapsley – so it was decided

to replace all the older style bolts, many of which were succumbing to worn or damaged

threads, and needed specialist tools to secure. The new design will be much quicker to install

and won’t need special tools. Of course there is a huge range of tasks besides bolt making to

get each event running as the well-oiled machine that we have all come to expect for

VSCCWA events. If you’re willing to offer your time, I’m sure we can find a task to suit you,

so put your hand up. Talk to any of the Event Organizing Committee people or Ron Fabry.
