5 tHings to consider

wHen deciding wHetHer

to renovate or move

Have an experienced agent look at

your home and provide a detailed

appraisal of its current value to

ensure that any works undertaken will

be recouped in value if you decide

to sell in the future. Make sure that

the land size corresponds to the

accommodation and the investment

you are considering, and that you

don’t overcapitalise.

If you are renovating with the idea of

increasing value, make sure that you

select finishes and colour schemes

with a neutral palette that appeal

to a broad demographic. Speak to

us about what buyers look for in a

renovation, and what to do and

what not to do.

Be clear as to the costs of moving

house - stamp duty, selling fees,

marketing and solicitors. It can be

more than you expected, but can

also be money well spent if you

find a home that better suits your

needs long term, rather than doing

a renovation that may only work

short term.

It is a good idea to have a builder

cost the scope of works to ensure

that the proposed works will result

in added value at the time of sale.

Some renovations do not necessarily

translate to a higher sale price and

may cost more than anticipated.

Look at the reasons why you are considering a move or a renovation. Decide

whether the renovation will give you and your family the desired end result for

the next part of your lives, and whether your home is in the neighbourhood

that you really love.
