Some wonderful images have been coming through in the Competitions so far this year. The aggregated scores are all quite even across the different categories, with some notable figures starting to move quietly up the ladder. Some of our newer members are also staring to show some form, with consistent Awards of Silvers and Golds coming through, well done and hope to see more of your talents coming through. A big thanks to our judges over the past two months, Alan Carter in March, and Glen Moralee in April, who have reinforced some of the important aspects of getting your images to Award level and not just capturing those moments in time that the Judges often refer to as a “Record Shot”. From a personal point of view, I think both judges have provided an excellent critique on the images submitted, but definitely fell short on awarding any of my images the Golds I was expecting. But seriously, let’s get back to their feedback. If I was to highlight the main challenges that the judges have referred to in the past three months, the following come to mind. From providing better separation of (main) subjects, getting the depth of field appropriate for the image, providing an emphasis on lighting especially where it’s needed, cropping out un-needed parts of the image and particularly in having a strong ‘story’. The club meets at 7.30pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month (except January) at the North Fremantle Community Hall: 4 Thompson Road, North Fremantle (Harvest Road end).
