Freo Graphic
February 2020 FREO GRAPHIC 4 Marlene Bishop Education Officer Manuel explained the difficulties with photographing the racing world, involving the need to capture images which combine editorial publication shots with landscape elements to ensure the logo, driver and vehicle are captured with the flavour of the country hosting the event. Another aspect included the elusive portrait shots of the drivers and teams involved in this industry. This approach required impressive technical skills and Manuel provided us with an insight into the settings used for this type of action photography, especially wide- open aperture, shallow depth of field, fast lenses and his love of negative spaces and symmetry. Manuel further elaborated, describing his application of exposure techniques, different compositions and under-exposing a photo with a variation via lightroom. Manuel finished his technical talk with ideas on varying the position of your photo from high above to lying on the ground, to achieve the perfect moment. Manuel concluded his presentation with a display of his other work including his favourite portraits recent wedding photos, family photos and studio work.
