God’s Own Country

Tern birds, as with all of God’s creatures, reflect God’s divine creativity and are a gentle reminder of God’s provision. As I reflect, I am reminded of two important things. 1. That we are the best of God’s creation, “made in his image”, because no other living creature on earth or in the heavens is made in God’s image. 2. As the Serar sounds its voice in flight, where is the voice of God in our lives? For too long we have become entangled in the “busyness” of this life, yet God is constantly calling out to his best creation. Yet even his best creation is at times deaf and consumed by its own self. Why is it hard for us to seek God? Is it because we make it hard for our own selves to seek our Creator? The Serar never travels alone but in a flock. My concern for us is that scripture reminds us we are the body of Christ, but yet we want to go about God’s mission on our own. Why? I think of the Serar that lives along the coastal areas and bodies of water. In the Bible, water is symbolically significant and represents purification, cleansing, and renewal. We as Christians may see the presence of the Serar near water as a reminder of baptism or spiritual cleansing through faith in Jesus Christ.
