the shores of many tropical islands again shows God’s abundance, nourishment, and provision. In the Bible, coconuts are not specifically mentioned, but there are various references to fruits and plants that provide sustenance for us. Christians can view the coconut as a reminder of God’s goodness and provision in their lives. Just as the coconut tree provides food, water, oil, and shelter through its fruit, Christians believe that God faithfully provides everything they need for their physical and spiritual well-being. Also, the hard shell protects the sweet water and flesh of the coconut from all elements of the weather. It is a constant reminder of seeking God in our everyday life not only in the bad times but also the good times. “pamle bo yumi ol ebribodi sympathy pamle” – “My tribal family are a family that can be tenderly quick to cry.” When there is a death, or if we haven’t seen a family member for a long time, or the memories and names of someone who has passed away are mentioned, then tears flow. We can be greeted with tears and be sent away in tears. When the O o fruit is cut the sweet water immediately gushes out from any cracks in the shell, so it is with my tribe that tears flow! However, when was the last time any of us have cried out to God, where tears are shed? Scripture reminds us “to humble ourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” Even Jesus himself cried out (James 4:10). As he died on the cross at about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46). 60
