28 Burning Palms Surf Life Saving Club Inc. – 86th Annual Report – 2024-2025 Season 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE OPENING OF BURNING PALMS CLUBHOUSE HELD ON SATURDAY 19 OCTOBER 2024 Members spent many weekends carrying down the hill, and working on the site and the photos taken during the 4 years of construction, showed the effort that was put into building the Clubhouse. It was a great feat for a small Club and the location like Burning Palms. Unfortunately some of the members who were instrumental in ensuring that the building came to fruition are no longer with us but will always be remembered. We can be very proud of the achievement by the members and now that it has been refurbished, we are still proud of our 40 year old building. The President, back in 1984, Mr Anthony O’Loughlin, declared the Clubhouse open for occupation wearing his long socks, shorts and collared shirt, (which was the gentlemen’s dress code back in 1984) And again in 2024! On 19 October 2024 our current President Dr Paul Cooper stood in the same place and congratulated the Club on achieving this milestone. It was great to see some of the members who were there 40 years ago (and they didn’t look any older!). Members and Guests of Burning Palms celebrated well into the evening, the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Clubhouse. Thanks to everyone who contributed to make the day’s event a special one for the Club! From preparing the Clubhouse and surrounds prior to the day, to ensuring there were enough refreshments and catering for lunch and then the cleaning up! And of course the gentlemen who attended in their long socks and collared shirts!
