22 Of more direct relevance, the Cootamundra brickworks was critical to the construction of the tanks and ancillary buildings, helping to protect the welded steel tanks 2 and 3 from splinters and bullets and strengthening the Foam Shed and Fuel Pump House. Bricks had been produced since 1909 in wood-fired kilns at the Old Brickworks site on Pinkerton Road and were used in the construction of the district hospital and fire station (1913). The brickworks owner, a Mr J Brady, was elected to the local council in 1921 and appointed Mayor in 1922. He had to shut his Pinkerton works for 12 months during the war until rationing was eased and he was supplied with sufficient labour and fuel. ...AND BRICKWORKS Cootamundra Herald. 5 Dec 1952.
