Cootamundra

9 Cootamundra’s tanks were ‘field welded’ out of pre- rolled plates and pre-cut roof and floor sections. Whether a local fabricator had the ability to roll this gauge of plate or a Sydney firm produced them has yet to be determined. With the help of a crane, electric arc equipment and boilermaker/welders, the task of fabricating the tanks was probably carried out by a local engineering firm. Most of the pipe systems were buried and to provide camouflage, each of the strategic tanks was probably equipped with large netting and steel pole systems to break up the regularity of sight lines from the air.
