New courses, new projects, and more students meant one of our biggest years to date. This year saw the Scientia building in full swing from day one, with Year 7, 9, and 10 classes living out their Food Technology dreams in the kitchens. With Food Technology running in Year 10 for the first time, this allowed us to implement new projects and try out different ideas. These students worked on designing their own food truck concepts, including building a prototype truck! The bridge and crane projects in Stage 5 Engineering continued to be a highlight for TAS students. Vincent Nguyen of Year 9 built a bridge that weighed 303g and held 153kg, giving a strength-to-weight ratio of 1:505—an incredible achievement! Testing these bridges to destruction is always a spectacle, and it will be interesting to see how the 2025 cohort holds up. In Stage 6, our Year 11 Design and Technology students embraced the skateboard project, meeting the brief and designing functional, easy-to-ride skateboards that reflected each student’s individual style. We also introduced the Enterprise Computing course for Year 11 (alongside the Computing Technology course for Year 9) this year, featuring a revised syllabus with newer, more engaging content. Our Year 12 classes performed exceptionally well, with seven Industrial Technology (Timber) students and three Design and Technology students receiving nominations for the SHAPE exhibition. Congratulations to Gianni Cotroneo, Anthony Douaihy, Aidan Kipreotis, Patrick Miholic, Kelly Rohan, Christian Sassine, and Domenic Taranto (Industrial Technology), as well as Aiden Elias, James Raheb, and Michael Sakr (Design and Technology). Thanks must go to all TAS teaching staff for 2024. Whether teaching a full load of TAS or a single class, your efforts are deeply appreciated by both students and the College. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Andrew Viney as he steps down from the position of Head of TAS. Mr Viney will return in 2025 as a TAS/VET teacher after nine years in the Head of Department role. The TAS department is grateful for the opportunity to have experienced your leadership and looks forward to continuing our work together in the years to come.
