CO-CURRICULAR 115 ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 PERFORMING ARTS CAPTAIN 2024 marked a year of growth for all boys within the performing arts. They were able to showcase their true talents in a variety of areas including numerous competitions and performances. This year, the 2024 College Music Camp provided a significant stepping stone for both small and large ensembles. From February 2 to February 4, boys from the combined College Orchestra, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and the newly formed College Jazz Orchestra headed off to spend the weekend at the Galston Gorge Conference Centre for the College’s annual Music Camp. The boys welcomed Mr Craig McGown who worked with the Symphonic and Concert Band over the weekend, and conductor Mr Alex Pringle who worked with the College Orchestra. Additionally, Mr Matthew Keegan worked with the Jazz Orchestra. The overall experience was extremely beneficial for all ensembles that attended. The College’s 2024 Performing Arts Production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a major success, having sold out all shows and received a standing ovation on closing night. The boys worked hard for six and a half months and should be proud of all their achievements. Every student involved has much to be proud of as this performance captivated the audience, providing laughter, joy, and everything in between. The boys showcased their talent to the College community during the Performing Arts Showcase Night. The event highlighted the talent of the College’s Performing Arts Department. Every ensemble performed on stage to an audience of over 300 attendees, with each student and ensemble receiving praise for their performances. The newly formed Jazz Orchestra also made their first appearance to the College community since 2019. On August 25, the boys of the Concert Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Orchestra performed at the Conservatorium of Music for the annual Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival (ASBOF). In a festival featuring over 11,000 students, the boys achieved incredible success by performing in the prestigious concert hall of the Conservatorium. The Concert Band earned a well-deserved Gold award, the Jazz Orchestra received a Silver award, and the Orchestra was awarded Bronze. All boys performed at their best and should be extremely proud of these achievements. The year was filled with amazing achievements, dedication, and hard work. Every student who participated in any way should be proud of their determination and effort.
