ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY 058 DIRECTOR OF MIDDLE SCHOOL (YEARS 5-8) Mr A Sinadinos Director of Middle School (Years 5-8) 2024 was a vibrant and successful year for us in the Middle School at St Patrick’s College. In addition to introducing Stage 3 Year Coordinators (Year 5 and Year 6) and Assistant Year Coordinators (Year 7 and Year 8) to the Wellbeing Team, we have incorporated pastoral care lessons into the timetable every fortnight. These bespoke and age-appropriate lessons are designed to promote each student’s wellbeing, moral and spiritual development, and to foster the formation of the whole person. Our new two-day transition program from Year 6 to Year 7 has further supported the development of meaningful and supportive relationships during the pivotal transition from Stage 3 to Stage 4. Through residential camping experiences at Camp Kincumber (Year 5), Camp Somerset (Year 7), and the Canberra Tour (Year 6), students have developed interpersonal, social, and academic skills. We also collaborated closely with external agencies, engaging Brainstorm Productions and BATYR to support our Middle School students’ personal growth and resilience. In Stage 3, our student leaders—led by the Year 6 Captain, Vice Captains, House Captains, and House Vice Captains— implemented a wide range of initiatives, building skills during their Young Leaders Afternoon Tea in collaboration with Santa Sabina College. In Stage 4, Year Ambassadors from Years 7 and 8 formed part of the Student Representative Council (SRC), working closely to enhance inclusivity, foster self-responsibility, deepen faith, and advance human dignity. Middle School students were also given opportunities to provide both formal and informal feedback regarding their school experience through the Relationships, Safety, and Bullying Survey and AISNSW Perspectives. The data highlights that students possess a strong sense of safety both indoors and in class, feel a strong sense of belonging and acceptance, and are consistently supported in fostering intercultural understanding. In summary, 2024 has been a highly successful year. It is evident that at the College, stronger wellbeing outcomes have led to stronger engagement in learning across our Middle School students.
