INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY 059 ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 YEAR 8 COORDINATOR Mrs F Warsop Year 8 Coordinator A good leader empowers others to grow, inspired by action and collaboration with a shared vision for success. As the ‘leaders’ of the newly structured Middle School, our Year 8 theme of “Through dedication, to lead and succeed” encouraged the students to envision themselves in a new light, with responsibilities and focus. Our Opening Mass and High Achievers Assembly at the Tennis Centre set the tone for a year of community and celebration. This was followed by the always beautiful Mother’s Day Mass, where Jason Abraham and Archie Truscott delivered the Acknowledgment of Country on behalf of our SPC community. A truly inclusive Reconciliation Week celebration then brought together our First Nations students, parents, and friends as we acknowledged our commitment to reconciliation through authentic relationships. To advance our cultural competency journey, we launched our SPC Reconciliation Action Plan with the support of our friends from CBHS Lewisham. Supporting the positive mental health of young people remained a priority, highlighted by Brainstorm Productions – Cyberia, which showcased some of the dangers of the socials and the importance of staying safe on social media. During our newly developed Pastoral Care Lessons (PCL), homeroom teachers engaged students on topics such as sustainability, study skills and organisation, positive masculinity, and ways to be a good friend on RUOK? Day. Throughout the year, I have been inspired and reassured to hear that students have put what they learned during their PCL into positive practice. Our Supporter’s Day on August 10 was a wonderful show of SPC Spirit, superbly lead by Olawe Kelly-Hanku and Charbel Taouk on his drum. I know the players on the field truly appreciated the support. On Reflection Day, we celebrated our differences through inclusivity and gospel spirituality, fostering right relationships and understanding, values that are greatly needed in our world today. Unexpected kindness is the least costly and most underrated agent of human change. As the Stage 4 curriculum neared its completion, it was time for Stage 5 Subject Selection and elective choices. Various heads of faculty presented the fascinating aspects of their courses, enabling the boys to make informed decisions for the Stage 5 courses they will study. Our performing and visual arts teachers also ran a wonderful Enhance Day, enabling the students to engage in experiential learning in photography, visual arts and drama with industry professionals. Many students shared positive feedback which guided them in making informed subject choices. Great fun and learning were had on the Languages Day where boys learnt to make pasta and enjoyed a day of cultural activities. It has been my privilege to work with the wonderful, kind and caring team of Year 8 homeroom teachers this year. Thank you for always putting your students first and nurturing their growth and development. Well done to our Year Ambassadors - Hamish Ellston, Antonio Ierardo, Terence Michael and Louis Gilroy for representing our cohort so well. Year 8 Supporters Day Commendation Award Winners Making Pasta - Isaac Mcmillan, Flynn Bugden, Joseph Showah, Brendan Taouk And Luca Vigolo Reflection Day - Lucas Ettorre, Flynn Bugden, Lucas Nankivell and Max Hart
