Both Annette and Claire sought God’s guidance for OMA and took their responsibility very seriously to help students express themselves in the creative arts area in the context of a Christian environment. Styles of creative arts and visual arts will always be bombarded with secular themes and OMA offered themselves as a Christian Academy with very high standards. The proof is easily found when you visit the Academy. Look over the many trophies in the showcase wall, remembering these awards are not just for local competitions but also state and national competitions. OneMaker Academy has an excellent reputation in the industry. What is in the name? How did OneMaker Academy choose its name? The concept behind the name OneMaker stems from a suggestion given to Dr Boyce that since God is the only true God and He is the giver of every good gift, we have One Maker. Since God delights in our worshipping Him and glorifying Him, this Academy can continually draw attention to Him by using the name OneMaker Academy and performing to the best of our abilities as it says in Colossians 3: 23-24: “ Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” The culture of OneMaker focuses on providing opportunities and resources for students to develop their God-given gifts and talents through participation in the performing arts. Core factors include commitment to regular practice, being a responsible and respectful member, peer support and developing strong Christ-centred relationships. The OMA Logo is our vision expressed in shape, colour and integration. Three pyramids coloured pink, blue and green titled Embark, Learn and Accomplish signify our aims for each student who studies, trains and performs with us, each triangle leading into the next. In its early days, parents and grandparents viewed OMA as a separate entity to the schools, seeing it as an outsourced provider allowed to work onsite. Dr Boyce and OMA have worked hard to help teachers, staff and families see OMA in its rightful position - part of the operations and ministry of Pacific Hills Christian School and focused on the sharing and development of God’s gifts in the performing arts. 24
