Pacific Group

Ours is a ministry of hope, embodying the reason behind its name. We strive to offer hope to families seeking a school where their child receives the care and understanding they deserve. Our mission aligns with the belief expressed by Thorsos (2012), who emphasises the Christian special education teacher’s role in advocating for students and ensuring access to educational opportunities. We provide tailored support for academic, social, spiritual, and personal development, with the hope that each student will achieve independence and success appropriate to their abilities. Building Community and Compassion I have often witnessed the heart and passion of Pacific Hills Christian School students who have supported their peers at New Hope. Through initiatives like the Year 8 SWAP (Service with a Purpose) program and Senior School community service days, students have volunteered their time and efforts to support our students. These interactions reflect a genuine attitude of respect, valuing each individual and benefitting everyone involved. The support extends both ways. Our students and staff have also contributed to the wider Pacific Hills community. Last year, our students helped prepare a staff birthday morning tea and expressed their gratitude to the Maintenance team with treats during Community Service Days. These actions exemplify the mutual support and community spirit that define our school environment. At New Hope, we encourage an attitude of Christian hospitality across the school community. Anderson (2011) highlights that a teacher who embraces a Biblical concept of hospitality ensures all students experience a sense of belonging. The parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) serves as a reminder of our call to help those in need and to be a neighbour to others. New Hope’s ministry demonstrates our commitment to compassion and grace, often in a world where these values are scarce. Christian Approach to Education While all schools are responsible for supporting the learning of all students, Christian schools like ours are driven by a deeper motivation. Beyond meeting legal obligations, we aim to follow the example of Christ, who challenged societal norms and broke down barriers. Our desire is to love all students as God loves us, celebrating and caring for each individual out of a genuine commitment to love and inclusivity. What has been our journey? It’s been a journey from vision to reality, guided by faith and a commitment to every student’s potential. From its humble beginnings to the present, the school continues to evolve, expanding its offerings and facilities to better serve its community. The dedication to providing a supportive, inclusive, and compassionate educational environment reflects our core values and mission. The continuing interest and growing enrolments are a testament to the school’s success in meeting its mission. DIANNE DOWSON Director, NHCS 31
