2025-26 CENTRAL COAST INVESTMENT PROSPECTUS 18 Who’s Investing World’s most powerful Super Battery at Munmorah Akasha Energy Corporation has built the world's most powerful battery on the former Munmorah Power Station near Budgewoi with it being turned on in mid-2025 and operating at 50 per cent capacity Built at a cost of $1.1 billion the Waratah Super Battery is a 850 megawatt / 1,680 megawatt-hour battery designed to act as a ‘shock absorber’ in the event of any sudden power surges, including from bush fires or lightning strikes. The NSW Energy Corporation (EnergyCo) in its role as infrastructure planner for the Waratah Super Battery appointed Akaysha Energy to construct the battery in 2022. Akaysha Energy and building contractor Power Solutions have employed over 170 mostly local people and where possible have used local suppliers. Transgrid is connecting the Battery to the grid via its existing Munmorah substation and carrying out upgrades to the NSW transmission network to enable its operation. The Colongra gas-fired power station is located adjacent to the site. It is the largest gas plant in NSW with a maximum capacity of 667MW. Vivacity Property In July 2025 Vivacity Property received rezoning approval to develop a retirement community at Kanwal Vivacity Property specialises in developing retirement communities and currently operate Stratford Gardens in Tahmoor and Tallowood at Medowie in Port Stephens. In mid-2025 they received rezoning approval for development of a retirement community on the site of the Oasis Caravan Park at Kanwal. Vivacity plan to develop the 5.09Ha site that will comprise 675 apartments including 102 affordable housing units and a further 200 seniors independent living units plus 1,000sqm commercial space to service the community.
