TOP SIRE 2026–2027 CLASSER PROFILES MITCH RUBIE Mitch Rubie has always had a strong passion for the sheep industry, shaped by his childhood on the family farm at Warroo on the Lachlan River west of Forbes, where his parents, Glen and Margot Rubie, have owned and operated a sheep and cropping enterprise for 40 years. Through experiences with respected industry figures such as the late John Coy, he developed a desire to establish his own classing business. After completing his Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management in 2021, he returned home to take on a more handson role within the family’s stud, Lachlan Merinos. Alongside his responsibilities on the family farm, Mitch took on classing of more than 10 different bloodline flocks and, through collaboration with Craig Wilson, contributed to the classing of over 50,000 commercial and stud Merino sheep annually, which led to the establishment of his business, Rubie Livestock Advancement, in 2023. He has since expanded his business in sheep classing and genetic advisory services, working with producers to improve the profitability and productivity of their sheep enterprises. Mitch is passionate about breeding sheep that combine sound phenotype with strong, accurate measured performance. While objective measurement plays a critical role in genetic progress, Mitch firmly believes sheep must first meet the standards of structural correctness, functionality and visual appeal and that sheep must still pass the classing race, no matter how impressive the data may be. Mitch is an active member of the team behind the Australian Merino Production Trial, which provides valuable insight into the traits that drive profitability and allows him to help clients make informed breeding decisions backed by both performance data and practical industry experience.
