37 The Upper Hunter offers four scenic self-drive touring routes based around Murrurundi, Muswellbrook, Sandy Hollow and Scone that will take you through some of the Upper Hunter’s most charming towns and villages. Each route will let you explore the rich variety Upper Hunter Country has to offer, regardless of where you’re staying. Our region is big, so there’s much to explore - approximately 18,000 square kilometres of rich farming land, mountains, and National Parks. The magnificent scenery, with its many brooks and streams, starts in the surrounding mountains and winds through beautiful valleys to the Hunter River. Native flora and fauna abound in the many local ecosystems found throughout the region, which is dotted with historic country towns, villages and hamlets.
