Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service Limited ANNUAL REPORT 2024/2025 33 Funded by: Federal Dept of Social Services – National Indigenous Australians Agency NSW Health – Rural Doctors Network – Western NSW Primary Health Network Celebrating over 39 years of Service since 1986 Quality Quality covers a multitude of activities from workforce, timely reporting and being accountable for delivering programs according to the funding guidelines. Having our policies, procedures and work sheets in line with industrial regulations to meet our Accreditation standards are integral to maintaining a continuum of best practice. Several personnel work behind the scenes to ensure all documentations meet the standards of our clinic, children services, dental practices and the organisation from our governance to our daily businesses. No mean feat. I give thanks to those who have accepted the responsibility of ensuring that we cross reference work activity where necessary. Sadly, our quality of service was exposed to some unkind incidents. Our vehicles stolen, written off, staff experienced home invasions while they were inside residences. During our work hours, inside our properties, staff were abused, confronted with verbal abuse, exposed to assaults. This resulted in the installation of CCTV, secure fencing and the appointment of a local security firm. We recognise such behaviours are from a range of ill-health and social and emotional wellbeing issues. We do wish our unwell community members to receive the best care possible. Quality in Culture Culture is our lead. Culture is our identity. Cultural is our language. WAMS has implemented all three aspects of culture to qualify our operations as an Aboriginal Community Controlled business. The many displays of language across our work properties have now expanded to tenants residences. An ongoing project of bringing culture and identity to the fore. Having a person employed to espouse our Culture and History, has enabled the exposure of, the information about, how we, as peoples of the Gamilaraay nation practice both our traditions and communications in a workplace facility. Quality in Governance Governance is defined as accountability by members of a governing committee to monitor, review and validate that a business meets the Act by which it operates. The Constitution is derived from an Act to direct the reporting and accountability. For our Directors their responsibilities have legal implications as well as professional obligations. Additionally, the three-year cycle of Accreditation allow both the Directors and the staff to review and monitor their practice within the confines of not only the reporting standards of the accreditation workbook as well as the internal Strategic Plan. Quality in Operation The Strategic Plan guides the operations and activities of the organisation. WAMS guiding principles are – i) lead with culture, ii) strengthen partnerships, iii) promote health outcomes in our communities, iv) empower and engage the workforce, v) continue to improve our organisational performance and vi) achieve financial stability. From the Strategic Plan, we progress our work according to the Business Plan and HR Plan. I believe each and everyone of us have such focuses in mind each and every. These plans are also defined for each department according to the workforce and the funding regulations. We are learning of the entitlements that the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Provider offers our clients. With the high incidence of chronic diseases, not only for our own clients, but for all persons living across our rural towns, we are seeing the benefits of what a subsidised program can bring for the clients, their carers and their families.
