Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service Limited ANNUAL REPORT 2024/2025 43 Funded by: Federal Dept of Social Services – National Indigenous Australians Agency NSW Health – Rural Doctors Network – Western NSW Primary Health Network Celebrating over 39 years of Service since 1986 Our Core Services: Supporting Independence at Every Stage Occupational Therapy at WAMS remains focused on the "occupations" of life—the daily activities that matter most. Our ongoing service provision includes: ● Paediatric Milestones: Early intervention to support children’s development. ● Ageing in Place: Comprehensive home assessments and home modifications to allow Elders to stay in their homes safely. ● Safety & Mobility: Expert Assistive Technology (AT) and equipment prescription, including funding requests and diagnostic reporting. ● Prevention: Collaborative participation in falls reduction programs to keep our community "standing strong." "This vital growth in Occupational Therapy is a huge step forward in building stronger, healthier, and more resilient community members, ensuring they can participate fully in life, right here at home." The Future of OT: A Comprehensive Model of Care As WAMS matures as a Registered NDIS Provider, our Occupational Therapy service delivery model is evolving to provide the highest standard of clinical advocacy. In the coming year, we are formalising our assessment pathways to include Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA) for both paediatric and adult clients, alongside Standardised Assessments and specialised Assistive Technology (AT) prescriptions. These tools are essential for ensuring our NDIS participants receive the funding and equipment necessary to meet their personal goals. However, our growth extends far beyond NDIS. We remain deeply committed to our Elders and aged care clients, prioritising "ageing in place" through detailed home safety assessments and the coordination of home modifications. By strengthening our community outreach and maintaining consistent service in Collarenebri and Brewarrina, we are ensuring that OT is not just a clinic-based service, but a mobile and responsive resource. Whether it is supporting a child’s developmental milestones, helping an Elder stay safe at home, or navigating complex diagnostic reporting, the WAMS OT department is dedicated to providing a sustainable, local solution that empowers every member of our community to live with independence and dignity.
