The survey is an important feedback mechanism to ensure we understand how members view the support the Marina Industries Association (MIA) provides to industry and monitor shifting needs and expectations. It informs us on what we need to continue doing, how we can improve, and keep an eye on services that we can provide to further assist members in managing their operations. I thought it would be good to share with you the insights and learnings. Members are very satisfied with the MIA with over 93% reporting good or excellent value for their membership investment. Education access and discounts, free webinars and free access to industry research rates among the highest member benefits. Education & training continue to rate as the most important service provided, followed by accreditation and best practice development – this remains unchanged over the last six years. Fortunately, members rate the performance of each of these services between 84% and 86%. Based on the results, there are no member benefits or services that the MIA would consider removing, although the free legal hotline service was the least well-known service and we have recently undertaken further promotion of this to increase awareness. With respect to education, our most important service to members, courses that focus on compliance rate as the most beneficial to members – these include WHS and Environmental Best Practice, Emergency Preparedness and Oil Spill Response. The Management courses continue to rate very highly, as does Straddle Carrier Operations and Maintenance, although these are more targeted in their audiences. Of courses the 2025 MIA MEMBER SURVEY By Suzanne Davies, CEO Marina Industries Association MIA is proposing to develop in the future, Boatyard & Marina Administration rated highly. It appears that nearly all dry stack operations are keen to see the Negative Forklift Operations course commencing and I am pleased to advise that this course will be ready before the end of the year. Risk Management and Certificate III in Marina Operations also rate very highly and will be considered further. We received lots of good feedback with respect to potential webinar topics also. MIA communications score very well which supports the high open and engagement rates of our publications. We were very pleased to see that members rated our ‘new look’ Waterline Magazine and our new website so well also. Members noted that they continue to find Waterline Magazine a good source of new product information (91%) and will consider sponsors when making their acquisition and purchasing decisions. In a separate survey of Waterline recipients, 87% report that they read every issue and 85% said that it is read by others in their organisation (13% reported that it is read by more than ten others). We were grateful that many took the time to express their thoughts regarding content and exhibitors at Marinas26. Many took time to provide qualitative comments and while these aren’t ‘scoreable’ they gave us some good ‘themes’ to pick up on. Please do not ever feel you need to wait for a survey to provide your feedback. As an industry association our job is to provide you with the support you want and expect, and we appreciate your continual communication in this regard. We all find it an absolute pleasure working with you and supporting your businesses.
