April 2026 WATERLINE | 45 MARINA TRAINING INSTITUTE The Marina Industries Association (MIA) recognises Certified Marina Operators, Managers and Professionals who are committed and experienced industry professionals, globally recognised through the Global Marina Institute (GMI) for their extensive experience and demonstrated knowledge and who have completed the Intermediate and Advanced Marina Management training programs. There are over 500 Certified Members accredited globally through the GMI and endorsed by ICOMIA - the International Council of Marine Industry Associations and as such open opportunities to work in the industry in all parts of the world. The Global Marina Institute (GMI), an education partnership between the Marina Industries Association and British Marine, offers several pathways for professional certification designed to recognise outstanding individuals within the marina industry. The certification program recognises professional growth through education, industry experience, volunteer contributions, and dedication to advancing the marina sector. Achieving certification marks a significant milestone, demonstrating commitment to continuous improvement and leadership. Over the past few years, there has been a steady increase in industry leaders pursuing certification through the GMI pathway. Below is a collection of newly accredited Certified Members who will be presented with their certificates and pins at the Marine Structures Gala Dinner during the Marinas26 International Conference and Trade Exhibition to be held at Royal Pines Resort, Gold Coast on 25-26 May 2026. With the Certified Member cohort expected to grow further, there will be interesting and insightful conversations at the Certified Members meeting, held ahead of Marinas26 on 24 May. ANNA BARNES CMO - MARINA OPERATIONS MANAGER | TAURANGA BRIDGE MARINA Anna Barnes began her marina career with Tauranga Bridge Marina in 1996, selling marina berths for the new 500-berth Marina. Since then, Anna has continued to gain hands-on experience across every aspect of the Marinas Operation, gaining a deep understanding and appreciation of what it takes to run a successful marina. Over the years, Anna has built extensive expertise in marina operations, project management, and industry best practices, including tenant relations, contractor and safety management. Known for her proactive approach and can-do attitude, Anna’s dedication and leadership have shaped her progression into the role of Operations Manager. She is also a Clean Marina Auditor and serves on the Executive Committee for the New Zealand Marina Operators Association. EMMA KING CMO - ASSISTANT MARINA MANAGER | BIRKENHEAD POINT MARINA Emma King began her marine career on charter boats in Sydney Harbour, working as a chef, deckhand, and vessel manager. She has lived aboard a 40-ft sailing catamaran with her partner for seven years, along with their dog Captain Jack, who is now one of the marina’s resident dock dogs. In 2023, while on maternity leave, they sailed Australia’s east coast with their newborn son Angus, who logged around 2,000 nautical miles in his first year. Emma is currently the Assistant Marina Manager at Birkenhead Point Marina, where she has worked since 2019 and plans to continue her journey within the Marina Industry, working towards a Certified Marina Manager certification. TIM FENWICK CMO - OPERATIONS MANAGER | FENWICKS MARINA Tim Fenwick developed a passion for the marine industry from a young age, growing up in his family’s business at Fenwicks Marina. He spent weekends and school holidays at the marina, broom in hand, learning the ropes and admiring the boats that passed through the yard. At 20, he completed a shipwright apprenticeship with Andrew Botting Shipwrights, later expanding his skills through a carpentry apprenticeship and work in the building industry. Since 2014, Tim has worked full-time at Fenwicks Marina, most recently as Operations Manager, proudly continuing his family’s legacy while helping grow the award-winning business. RICHARD BARRETT CMM - MARINA MANAGER | SCARBOROUGH MARINA Richard Barrett is a marina industry professional with more than 35 years’ experience in marina operations, management, and development. He began his career at Sanctuary Cove Marina before progressing into leadership roles, later becoming General Manager of Abel Point Marina, where he managed the facility through receivership and sale. Since 2015, Richard has been Marina Manager at Scarborough Marina, overseeing marina, boatyard, and Dry Stack operations, along with major infrastructure development. He has also served as Chairman of the Whitsundays Superyacht Cluster, a Board Member of Tourism Whitsundays, and a Technical Advisory Committee member for the Cert III Marina Operations Training Package Review. TONY BRIGHT CMM - MARINA MANAGER | NEWPORT MARINA Tony Bright has a lifelong connection to the marine industry, with family ties dating back to the 1930s when his grandfather worked with the Halvorson Brothers at Brights Dockyard in Balmain. Introduced to sailing at age 10, he has remained actively involved in boating throughout his life. Tony joined the Royal Australian Navy at 18 before completing a boat building qualification and working on the construction of Mariner luxury cruisers. He later moved into marina management, holding leadership roles at Pier 35 and Victoria Harbour, Melbourne. For the past three and a half years, Tony has been Marina Manager at Newport Marina, Queensland, overseeing 186 wet berths, staff, operations, and a major redevelopment including new office, hospitality, and accommodation facilities. EKREM REYHANCIOGLU CMP - ASIA PACIFIC DIRECTOR | PORALU MARINE Ekrem Reyhancioglu is Asia Pacific Director at Poralu Marine, a global leader in marina and waterfront development, overseeing business growth across the region. With extensive experience in large-scale projects, he has shaped major marina developments including Westernport Marina, Tauranga Marina, Kinmen Marina, Taiwan, and several projects in Indonesia. He also led the innovative Tsui Ping River floating platform, Hong Kong and is currently redesigning Chaffers Marina, Wellington, New Zealand. Ekrem’s strategic vision and expertise in creating world-class marina facilities have established him as a respected leader in marina and waterfront development across the Asia Pacific. KEITH HOGAN CMP- GENERAL MANAGER | BELLINGHAM MARINE NEW ZEALAND Keith Hogan joined Bellingham Marine in March 2023 as General Manager New Zealand, with more than 35 years experience in the marine industry. Keith holds an NZCE (New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering) as well as a postgraduate degree in business. Before joining Bellingham Marine, Keith managed several well-known facilities and later established a marine construction and piling company, which he operated for 12 years. During these years, he built numerous fixed and floating structures around New Zealand. His experience is valued by staff and customers alike to ensure the best and most advantageous outcomes for all parties.
