Where Do We Go From Here
46 “And Philip, starting with this scripture, tells the eunuch the good news about Jesus.” Starting with this scripture, the eunuch’s scripture, Philip tells the eunuch about Jesus, the lamb who was slain. The eunuch probably saw himself in the story of Isaiah, but imagine his surprise when he saw Jesus in his story, in all its suffering and heartache. The story continues: As they were going along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch asked yet another question, “Look, here’s some water! What’s to stop me from being baptised?” The eunuch orders the chariot to stop, and they both go into the water where the eunuch is baptised. In baptism the eunuch comes to belong to God and God’s people and God’s story. I want to make three missional reflections on this story: Respect, Trust, and Humility.
