Australia’s No.1 Boat Stands ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT GROWING Environmental stewardship is increasingly on the agenda. While uptake of some technologies remains modest — just 15% of marinas have solar installed and 9% offer EV charging — the pipeline is encouraging: 46% have plans to install solar within three years. Three-quarters of marinas rate proactive environmental initiatives as highly important, and 97% have an emergency response strategy in place. CHALLENGES AHEAD The survey also shines a light on the headwinds facing the sector. Lead researcher Dr Ed Mahoney from Michigan State University noted that marinas are increasingly struggling to attract and retain employees, with some operators choosing to engage more contractors to fill the gap. He further flagged that bureaucratic delays in permitting and approvals are hampering the enhancement and expansion of marina facilities at a time when storage and service capacity is already under pressure. ACCESSING THE FULL REPORT All marinas that participated in the survey will receive the full report, which contains 48 data tables and accompanying commentary. For non-participating marinas and other interested parties, the report is available for purchase from the MIA website at AU$5,400 plus GST. *Based on IMPLAN International Mode Value Added calculations. ^Estimated tenant jobs supported in based on 7 employees per business.
