FREO GRAPHIC May 2020 5 Education Extra I guess we are all victims at times of our own success. We used a certain technique to our advantage, and it seemed to impress the judge. Occasionally though, we venture too far down that same path expecting similar results and get disappointed. What it is that took over and reduced our winning ways? Sometimes it just simple and basic errors that we overlook that could be either removed or adjusted. I recall last year referencing a simple but effective strategy in looking for the 12 Elements of a Merit Image. Merit implying an Award-winning image characterised by our Bronze, Silver and Gold categories etc and judged accordingly through the WAPJA Judging Exhibition scoring system. Predominately, these elements are generally perceived as the main aspects our judges refer to, but in contrast, also offer an effective mechanism for us to critique our own work prior to submission.
