Interview by Craig & Chris Jollow
When most blokes are happy to wander down to the footy on a
Sunday, have a pie and a drink with mates, you’ve jumped into
the role of President of the Narrabri Rugby League Club. Why the
move from spectator to administrator?
They had three meetings and couldn't form a commitee, so they
asked me if I would stand and it went from there... just to keep the
football club going... I've been in that role before for about three
years back around 1995. Before I went into Hotels back in '85, I had
been in the committee for a fair while. They made me a life mem-
ber in 1985 and before that I was made a life member of the Junior
League. I'm also now the president of the Men of League here in
Narrabri... we do a bit of fundraising and we are here to help those
that need it in the local Rugby Leaugue community,
What sort of things does the Club President do?
It's harder now because there are so many different rules than there
were back in the nineties... you have to have ground managers for
this and security for that, which back in the day we didn't have to
worry about... and it's harder with today's footballers. Back when I
was team manager... when we won the Grand Final with Frank Fish in
'76, you could press your players harder and make them train... there
were a lot of blokes looking for a game.
But today if you do something wrong with them, they drop their bit
