I
join the many who
are remembering you,
congratulating you, thanking
you, and praying for you as
Mary Immaculate Parish
celebrates a quarter-century
since its establishment as
well as the 30th anniversary
of Mary Immaculate Catholic Parish Primary
School originally named St Mary’s Primary
School.
A lot of water has gone under the
bridge since 1986 and clergy, religious,
parishioners, teachers, staff, students
and parents will know the struggles and
triumphs that have marked the life of the
parish and school over these years.
Previous generations of dedicated Catholic
people have built the churches, schools and
parish facilities we nowuse and enjoy. We
owe an enormous debt of gratitude to them
andwe offer them the charity of our prayers
of thanksgiving. We seemuch further into
the future whenwe stand on the shoulders
of those whowent before us.
Each generation passes on the baton of
Catholic faith and culture to the next. As
recipients of that gift of faith, hope and love,
it now falls to us to ensure we do not drop
the baton, but pass it on to our children and
grandchildren who will succeed us.
Church buildings are dedicated not only by
liturgical blessings but also by the personal
prayers offered and by the Eucharistic
Liturgy celebrated here for generations of
parishioners and by those formed in faith,
hope and love in our Catholic Schools and
those instructed by catechists. The works of
charity for people in need make every parish
on oasis of mercy. This is a sacred site and we
treasure the memory of its beginning and of
its continuing influence for good.
