Burning Palms

24 Burning Palms Surf Life Saving Club Inc. – 86th Annual Report – 2024-2025 Season March Past Well, another season has come and gone. Albeit a short one, as far as carnivals go. Our first carnival was the World Titles on the Gold Coast at Kurrawa where we finished equal 3rd but 5th on the count back. Not a bad result for no training! The next carnivals were scheduled for Manly and Freshwater in January but both were cancelled due to inclement weather. So that meant we only had the Branch at Maroubra, State at Queenscliff and the Aussies at Kirra. The following were our results: Branch outright 3rd, State equal 3rd but 6th on the countback, Aussies equal 5th but 9th on the countback. Unfortunately, we experienced problems with training due to members unable to train because of work commitments. As indication the branch, we could only train on Friday night before the march and we only had 11 of the 12 available, so to finish 3rd was quite good. At the state and the Aussies Terry Farley through work commitments had to pull out of the team. I had to call on Dirty Dave Dillon to replace him for both. Dirty Dave did a good job marching in a position he had never marched before but was only available on the day of the march. We had Dirty Dave lined up to compete at the Aussies, but his holiday leave was revoked before we could compete on the Friday. We had to second Margaret Pearce into the team. Margaret did an excellent job and without her availability we would not have been able to compete. So on behalf of the team, I’d like to thank Dave Dillon and Margaret Pearce for their efforts. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Colin “Whale” Mulhall in coaching the team up to the state. Unfortunately, he was not available to attend the Aussies due to family commitments. Once again, thanks Whale. I’d also like to thank Heidi Chafei, thanks once again for looking after the costumes again this season. We appreciate it. Also, to both Golly and Wayne, thanks guys for transporting the reel to and from carnivals. Next season, hopefully will be different as all the members competing live and work in Sydney which means we will be able to train regularly and hopefully improve our results. Yours in Marching David Falkiner March Past Team Manager
