Burning Palms

26 Burning Palms Surf Life Saving Club Inc. – 86th Annual Report – 2024-2025 Season CONGRATULATIONS ON THE AWARD On Thursday 21 November 2024 at Government House Sydney, Riley Vaughan was awarded a Bronze Medal for Bravery for his rescue on 3 March 2024, by the Royal Humane Society of New South Wales. It is pleasing to see Riley’s effort in saving a life of a young man caught in a rip, has been recognised, as he would have drowned had Riley not been at the Palms on that late afternoon. Also on the day, Bob Glasson from Garie was awarded a Silver Medal for Bravery on a rescue in late February 2024 at Little Garie. Well done Bob, congratulations to you! NEW SOLAR BATTERIES AND EMBER MESH INSTALLED AT THE CLUBHOUSE With the assistance of the NSW Surf Club Facilities Grant, the Club now has installed ember mesh around the entire perimeter of the Clubhouse. Thanks to Steve O’Connor, our builder, the job has now been completed. Also the installation of the new solar batteries is complete and operating in the Clubhouse. FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT The purpose of the fire fighting equipment is to defend the Clubhouse using the large pump and hose reels on either side of the Clubhouse and water from the dedicated water tank. We also have 2 smaller pumps and hoses which can be used to put out fires around Cabins using water from creeks or Cabin water tanks. The equipment also includes fire fighting water back packs which can be used to put out spot fires. While environmental conditions are not favourable for bush fires at present, fires can occur inside the Clubhouse from the kitchen and other sources. The NSW Fire Brigade will not get to the Palms quickly. It is a responsibility for all members of the Burning Palms Surf Club to learn how to use the fire fighting equipment.
