24 A bargain basement purchase for Ampol, it could be viewed as the government giving the new Australian company the distribution clout to supply bulk fuel to regional agriculture and transport hubs and compete with the foreign majors. In the lead up to the sale, detailed instructions were provided to empty and clean the fuel storage tanks, remove some of the valves and controlling equipment to storage amongst other stand down requirements. This ensured that all buildings were left clean, equipment cleaned, greased and maintained in working condition and safety precautions followed to ensure the re-use of the site or any building or equipment when and if the need arose. After the handover Ampol equipped the depot to store diesel, petrol and heating kerosene. Ampol Fuel Centre (disused), Olympic Way, Cootamundra. 1996.
