LIBERATING EDUCATION 092 ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 Living Edmund Rice’s Vision: A Year of Faith and Service in Stage 3 At the heart of Edmund Rice’s teachings is the call to “give to the poor in handfuls.” This principle has been the guiding light for our Stage 3 students throughout the year. It has inspired their dedication to both faith and service, as they have worked tirelessly to support those in need while deepening their connection to God and to one another. Our fundraising efforts stand as a testament to the generosity of the boys and their families, who have shown immense commitment to our Lenten partners, Lucas Gardens and Chalmers Road School. These initiatives were followed by our recent Walk for Change event and our Mission Mass, both of which raised vital funds for our Mission Partners, including St Edmund’s College in Wahroonga, St Gabriel’s School, Catholic Mission Australia, and Chetanalaya. Through these efforts, the boys have not only contributed financially but have also embraced the values of empathy and compassion that are central to Edmund Rice’s legacy. A significant part of Stage 3’s spiritual journey this year has been the regular Friday Mass in the College Chapel. This sacred time has allowed the boys to pause, reflect, and immerse themselves in their faith, providing them with an opportunity to grow closer to God and nurture their spiritual lives amidst their busy schedules. Year 5 enjoyed participating in their Belonging Day, a special event focused on the connection between Jesus, Edmund Rice, and each individual student. Held across various locations with the support of the Year 5 teachers and Year 12 boys, the day was a wonderful experience that allowed the boys to build stronger bonds with their peers and, most importantly, deepen their understanding of how Edmund Rice’s values are interwoven with their faith. Year 6 students had their Spirituality Day at the Field of Mars, where the theme of Creation was brought to life. Surrounded by the beauty and wonder of nature, the boys reflected on the delicate balance of God’s creation while engaging in activities designed to strengthen communication skills, trust, and cooperation within their house groups. This day not only enhanced their appreciation for the natural world but also allowed them to develop the qualities needed to work harmoniously with others. Throughout the year, Stage 3 has exemplified the values of service, compassion, and faith. From their fundraising initiatives to their personal reflections during Mass, the boys have been consistently challenged to represent Christ in all that they do. They have followed in the footsteps of Edmund Rice with grace and dedication, living out his vision of a more just and compassionate world. We look forward to the continued growth and spiritual development of these young men, as they carry the lessons of the year forward into the future.
