W O M E N ' S C U L T U R E 37 She has been interviewing the best players for a decade but attributes poker insights largely to her boyfriend and professional poker player Angel Guillen. Despite maintaining lofty professional standards the WPT has presented Gilmartin with a number of challenges on camera. One particular challenge was in the paradise of St.Kitts where whilst conducting an interview with Antonio Esfandiari one of his friends decided to take his “kit” off. Despite claiming on-camera that she did NOT look at the recently de-kitted gentleman, many people from the world of internet sent in images of Gilmartin’s eyeline looking directly at the man’s exposed region. Gilmartin swore she didn’t see anything, or perhaps as some people say there was nothing major to see here. WPT continues to expand at an amazing rate. From Season 1 just 3 countries to Season 18 scheduled to be in 21 countries. Gilmartincited diversification as one of the driving factors behind the expansion. She said “We are now in so many different areas of the world with our events and our TV show”. Gilmartin said that the biggest misconception about Poker is that it is a game of luck. She described it as a “mental endurance sport” and “a game of skill”. She backed it up by saying “skill always outplays the cards”.
