Virginia Perin Manager Clinical Care & Services Registered Nurse Sarah Mudge Home Care Coordinator Registered Nurse Amelia Hall Community Care Worker New Board Director Welcome to the West Coast Homecare Board of Management. Sara joined 22nd November 2023. Sara Fauser Board Director We encourage consumers to provide feedback to assist us to improve the services we provide. At the last round of Consumer ‘Conversation’ meetings held in late 2023 we received many compliments about the services and about the event itself. We also received feedback and ideas about some things that you thought could be done differently and better. Compliment/ ideas and Opportunities for Improvement are recorded by the Quality Coordinator on our Continuous Improvement System. The report is forwarded to the CEO, the Executive Team and the Board of Directors. Opportunities for Improvement that require action are delegated to the appropriate manager to be addressed. Once the action has been completed the outcome is reported back to the CEO and the Quality Coordinator to complete the cycle of continuous improvement. Sometimes the feedback is more a query relating to service delivery. Below is a summary of some of the common questions that consumers want to know more about and our response to the queries. We hope you find this helpful. The answer to your query may depend on what level of care you are receiving. The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) funding is different to the Home Care Packages (HCP). CHSP serves as an entry-level program that provides basic care and support services. It is intended for individuals who require minimal assistance to continue living independently. The services offered under CHSP include domestic assistance, social support, transport, meals, and personal care. The program focuses on helping individuals with tasks they may find challenging as they age, such as cleaning, shopping, and meal preparation. The CHSP program is subsidised by the Commonwealth Government by grant funding, enabling the service provider to provide lower level services with a small client contribution. The HCP program is designed for people with more complex needs. These packages offer a higher level of care and support services tailored to the specific requirements of the individual. Through HCP, the individual can have access to a wide range of services, including allied health services, nursing services, and assistance with activities of daily living. HCP recipients receive a government subsidy, but they are also required to contribute to the cost of their care. For more information on these programs, please contact West Coast Homecare and one of our staff will be happy to help you. What happens to your feedback? Commonly Asked Questions Question Answer I receive CHSP - can I have windows cleaned more and extra services – like pest spraying in the shed, cleaning under the eaves/pavers & gutters? Is it ok to ask yard man? If you are requiring more services, please talk to your Home Care Coordinator. Each request for an increase in services under this program needs be assessed and approved by management on an individual basis. I live in a small rural town. Can we have trips to Port Lincoln for shopping/social visits, respite and social? Home Care Packages can fund social and community activities that promote and protect the person’s lifestyle, interests and wellbeing. If this is something that you wish to include in your Care Plan, discuss with you Home Care Coordinator who will work with you to see if this can happen within your budget. There may also be an opportunity for 2 or 3 consumers to share funding and do these trips together. CHSP may include these services. Please discuss with the Home Care Coordinator. Regular visits from coordinator would be nice instead of phone calls all the time. Our current procedure for review of services is a 6 month phone review for CHSP consumers and an annual face-to-face meeting. For consumers with complex needs or when changes are required, face to face reviews are more frequent. I would like more consistency of services and schedules. Would it be at all possible to work a system that could provide us with a roster for services (cleaner, gardener etc). It would need to be updated if changes do occur and how would the changes be approached? This is something that is being explored with the Client Record Management System that we currently use. Your care plan should include details of services and schedules. We aim to inform consumers in a timely manner if there are any changes or need to reschedule. I am frustrated by increased costs resulting in less services for my level 2 package. With the wage increase last year, the Government sent out a letter to all recipients of a Home Care Package informing people that the Home Care Package Subsidy has increased to offset the wage increase, so that service providers can increase their fees to cover this extra expense. All prices are set in line with aged care legislation and consumer law. Extra service suggestions: access to gym facilities? A carpool for therapy in Lincoln e.g. swimming, maybe a bit of library & a coffee kiosk-maybe one afternoon a week. Learning phones! There are some good suggestions here. We encourage you to discuss your ideas with your Home Care Coordinator if you are receiving a Home Care Package. Please note that Gym or pool memberships/access costs, when not prescribed for aged-related functional decline, are not included in the Home Care package, and are considered general expenses for a person. CHSP may be included as social support. Talk to your Home Care Coordinator.
